Daveena, they actually had something in my eye to hold it open for me, which was kinda weird haha.
The whole process was they gave me a Xanax about 30 - 40 minutes beforehand, so I was in the back waiting room chillin for a bit before they even took me in. Then they had me lay down on the table, snuggled my head into a headrest so I couldn't move it from side to side and just had me tilt up my head to look at the laser itself. They cleaned up my eyes with an iodine solution, then suctioned off (lol) all the moisture before they cut open the flap with another laser - some places may use an actual knife, but the place I went to used a laser, and that actually started to burn toward the end even with the numbing drops lol.
For the actual LASIK itself, they taped both my upper and lower lids, then used another instrument that basically kept me from blinking the entire 40 odd seconds for each eye. All I had to do was keep my eyes trained on this orange light as the laser did it works. They also gave me squeezy balls for the entire surgery in case I need to hold onto something haha.
The entire surgery for both eyes lasted maybe 5 minutes? The set up was longer than the actual operation, and after that, they rinsed my eyes out with an antiseptic solution, blew some cold air on them to get the flap to seal and gave me some rad looking goggles to go home with haha. I went back yesterday actually for my Day 1 post op and they said everything was good! The really horrible pain was RIGHT after on the way home - the place is an hour from where I live down on the shore, and of course you really realize how shit the roads are when every bump makes your eyeballs flame up lol. That only lasted like 6 hours though and I slept through a lot of it. I got home around... 830, I think? Took a shit ton of pain meds, fell asleep, woke up at 3 am and OH MY GOD, I could see and it was amazing and it didn't even hurt anymore and what sorcery is this?!
The surgery itself isn't terribly scary - my surgeon was talking me through the entire thing, which really helped, and since it's so damn quick, you're in and out no problem.
