This is just an odd topic that I've had stuck in my head for a while! I want to know....how did you come up with the name for your barn?
To start off, I personally have two "barns", Mockingbird and BlueJay, both songbird themed. It's pretty personal why I use those, not just "OMG I LOVE BIRDS" (which I do but that's besides the point lmao)
I've suffered from anxiety and a tad of depression for a while now, and a common theme that has kept me going is that one day I will overcome this mental illness and then I will soar and "fly away" from it. The reason they're songbirds is my form of communication of my anxieties to my friends is through lyrics. Music is pretty huge in my life. I've actually been thinking about getting a tattoo of a mockingbird and a bluejay, because of how much those birds mean to me!
I got into horse racing by reading the book "Seabiscuit" and totally fell in love haha. I joined SS not too long after (gotta get dat horse fix, yo) and couldn't decide what I wanted to name my stable. I went back to Seabiscuit because I could read that book forever, and good ol Seabiscuit's sire was a son of Man o War named "Hard Tack" - and thus an IDEA WAS BORN.
I really liked the sound of it and decided to use that for my stable. I've been thinking of doing another name for my non-Thoroughbreds but honestly I've had it for so long and I like it so much I probably won't lol.
I like draft horses, so I was like "hmm... draft horses are kind of rustic right? What else is rustic... barns.... barns that are.... old??? yes!!! old barns! and then lets throw stables in on the end"
Moonmist is the name of a hippogriff I got from Kimberly years ago. I was so honored that I was chosen and she means a lot to me. I've been thinking about doing another stable name too that has something to do with my oldest pet Hallow, but Idk. Here's a picture of Moonmist and Oscuro my leopard. They have a pretty intense romance lol. It's comical to watch. I actually have a painting of Oscuro hanging on my wall. I have an actual attachment to my petz lol.
Hallow, I got him back in 2002 when I first joined the petz community
I think if I ever lost him- which I wouldn't as I have copies on a USB, but if I ever did- I'd probably cry for a while. He's got sleepy sickness and he's the only pet that I can actually stand it in.
Mine was kind of a play on our ranch in real life, which was called Darrach Burn Farms. I used it once or twice playing VHR or something like that, but when I joined SS I wanted something a little bit different, but all I could really come up with was a Burning Acres, which when I think about it now sounds a bit silly. I swear my area of California is only entirely on fire sometimes!
My sport horse operation at Rosewood is taken from my old Breyer horse farm name. We had a rosewood chair once that I would sometimes use as a cliff for the lead stallion and mare to stand on, and then after we got some riders for our Breyers and my sister and I considered them rideable we decided we needed a stable name. My mom suggested Rosewood. Locally, I suppose a better name would've been something like Manzanita or Lone Pine or something along those lines.
My usual petz name/prefix, Reverie, has been around a long time but someone else has it registered at the PKC, so when I registered there I had to pick other ones. Rhapsody was one of those and I've always liked how it seems to just 'go with' Reverie so well. So when I started with SS it was really easy to pick Rhapsody, because I don't do PKC really but I've always wanted to use it.
I do miss using Reverie though since when I started here I kinda just disappeared from normal petz for the most part lol. So, since Riddle was my first horse and he's a Morgan, and he made an appearance on a Reverie layout a lonnnng time ago, I might have my Morgan line from Reverie. Not sure yet. I really should get my site updated...
Honey Hoof Estates because the Walkaloosa gait is slow and beautiful and I used to favor cremes. I also have this big expensive doll house I named Honey Hoof Estates because it's golden and fancy. I'm really big on toys, like just a big kid with boxes of model horses, plastic ponies, big stuffed animals... It's a thing with me for some reason! So, I thought it would be fun to link my barn to my house and horses. <3
Wonderbolts, Saddle Arabia, Windigos, Cutie Crusaders are barn names, not really prefixes. But they all come from my favorite show My Little Pony. See, just a big kid! <3
Porcelana PRE came for my Andalusians because Rafa made their mod. I wanted to link it to Matador, so I tried to make it tag along like the phrase "Bull in a china shop". I don't know, Porcelana just stuck.
When I rejoined SS after it moved I considered getting a new barn name but decided I'm lazy. NightShade's is just my site/kennel/cattery/everything name so I figure it would work for my Stable/Barn too. The name came across because when I first started joining the petz community my best friend was supposed to join with me but she never did because stupid Mac computers. Moving on, we had two RP characters, her's was Night and mine was Shade. The idea was that you combine the names and it is nightshade the plant? We also had Poison and Ivy. Anyways even though she never joined I had NightShade's already up and going and was too lazy to create a new name. My 'general adopt out' prefix/suffix come from that, NightShade and NSP(NightShade Petz). All my prefixes/suffixes come from one of my characters in some way though. Shades(Self explanatory); Vama, Dux Interitio, and Amanti are all OCs; Effigia and Viscera are both ships that Dux and Amanti have.
