I didn't really know where to put this but I figure here is fine? These are some of my favorite photos and animals from Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and the Wildlife Safari that's just outside Omaha. I figure we all like animals so I'd share some pics haha. Maybe you guys will decide to put Omaha on your list of places to visit! It's a very large zoo and I guess it holds some records? I haven't really looked that up lol.
This is the first time I've used my camera for longer than an hour and I am such a beginner at photography so don't have ANY expectations lol. I should have taken my zoom lens but I was worried that it would get annoying carrying it around all day so I left it at home and I really couldn't zoom in much, however a lot of the animals came right up to the barriers so that was nice.
These are from the first day, we got there around 12:30 and stayed til they closed...
Then the next day we headed for the big cat exhibits first thing in the morning since they are most active in the mornings due to the heat and also they do the feeding/enrichment in the morning. I got this sequence of the Amur Leopard eating and I don't understand how it doesn't bite its own tongue...
Almost done!
And the Puma had just been let in so it was searching for the food...
But this guy was definitely the best part of the zoo for me! We were running a little late so we missed him searching/eating. He was laying in a pool of water but then he got up to walk around a little before going to lay in the shade where you couldn't really see him, or maybe it was a her, idk.
And here's a few from the rest of the day...
Dwarf Mongoose! They were so cute and small! <3
And the next day we went to the SAC Museum and the Wildlife Safari which are right next to each other and about 30 minutes outside Omaha. I won't post pics of all the planes from the museum haha.
The safari was pretty cool. It takes you a little over an hour to do it unless you park and watch the animals for a bit. You drive through and in the middle there's a lot to park in and a short hike up to the wolves and bears, we didn't see any bears but the wolves were pretty active and actually got kinda close.
I would totally do this trip all over again except I'd do it in like October or April or something because it was SO hot and humid. The first day wasn't so bad but I got a little sunburned so I put on sunscreen the next day. BAD IDEA! I started to sweat and it mixed with the sunscreen and it wouldn't dry, it was horrible. I had to go to the restroom and wash it off because otherwise I would've been gross and SHINY the whole day. So I got even more sunburned but I'm recovered now haha. I just have about 50 new freckles....
