I need help with my Chexy hex! I can open the breedfile from the adoption center, adjust brainsliders, take her out anywhere in the game and play just fine in that session. As soon as I exit the game and re-open it I cant bring Chexy back out of the petz list, It gives me an error- Cant load breed, but I can go back to the adoption center and adopt a new horse each time I boot the game, and the breedfile works fine there. Any ideas on whats going wrong for me? I think its got something to do with her texture possibly, but I'm so new it could just be operator error!
I THINK I remember others having similar problems and it was definitely texture related...I think it was something to do with importing the texture via Petz Workshop vs just manually adding it to the texture list? Idk I'm not sure that's even something you can do as I mostly hex in LNZ Pro.
I would open the .pet file in LNZ and verify that the texture list has all the external textures you've used pointing to the resource/dogz folder, and that the list matches for both the baby and the adult. If that's all good, I don't have any more ideas at the moment... If you want to send it to me, I can take a look and try to figure it out! firstname.lastname@example.org
There were two separate issues that I found. One was that it appears you made her a new breed? You can rename the file outside of the game for storage purposes (because having 70 different Great Dane.dog files may be confusing) but you always want to leave the file as a regular Great Dane overwrite so that you don't have to send the .pet and the .dog to people and so you don't have to have a separate breedfile in the game for every horse you own.
I renamed the file back to Great Dane.dog but it wouldn't show up now in the adoption center, so I converted the file back to a regular Great Dane.dog and thought that would be it. However, the textures were funky...
I'm not sure how they got directed to that ptzfiles location but external textures should always go in the resource\dogz folder. I'm going to assume it's something to do with adding the textures in PW. It might be easier if you manually add the textures to the texture list in LNZ (just type them in at the bottom of the list) on both the real file and the dummy, that way there is no weirdness with where PW thinks the textures should be.
So I fixed that and then I couldn't even get a horse to come out of the adoption center. I removed the suspicious texture which was doing something weird in the BMP section in LNZ and everything works great now! I think the csmoke texture is exactly the same so hopefully that's not an issue . Here's what the texture list looks like now for comparison.
I also know you mentioned issues with anchoring & texturing paintballs (which you may have figured out already) but here's something that might help.
So when you import paintballs from PW they always end with -1 in the texture column, which means untextured. You then need to change the -1 to the texture number corresponding to the texture you want the paintballs to have (green column). Then you add a space or three and a 0, which will anchor the paintball so it doesn't shift around as much on the ball, it stays in place better (blue column).
Here's the texture list with numbers, so when you go in to texture and anchor Chexy's paintballs, any of them that you want to use the external texture, you'd change the -1 to a 0. I always just look in the color column to tell which paintball should have what texture. So white ones should be hair10 (1 in the green column), and blue/grey ones probably should be the external texture (0 in the green column).
I textured and anchored those first few paintballs and adopted a horse to test the file, it works fine now!
Thank you so much Jewellz! I sort of figured out paint ball textures on my own, but this makes a lot more sense! I've been mostly self taught in this hexing stuff so I had no idea about the breed part. I'm off to work on those paintballs. thanks again
Jewellz I think i've got it now! I just want to play around with her paint pattern and get the white belly spots a little more aligned, but i'm really happy with how much I've learned in these past few days. LNZ pro is intimidating at first but I think I'm getting to be a little more comfortable now. Any feedback on her hexing is welcome of course. Thank you so much for sorting out my problems with her
