Hello all!
You're soon going to notice things looking a bit different around here - after living on Proboards for a number of years, and having basically the same kind of shows and guides from when the forum started over 10 years ago on Invision, it's time for a face lift. I'll be working on several major changes on the forum, mainly to make information easier to find, files easier to download and showing a much more streamlined and easier process for both new and old users.
So what's changing? Here's a list.
------------
BARREL RACING IS NOW OFFICIAL
Barrel Racing was now an officially sanctioned Western sport! After testing it in the 2018 Year End Festival, I've decided to take the plunge and add it to our growing roster of shows. Barrel Racing is an exciting, fast paced sport where horses sprint against the clock around a set of three barrels, aiming for the fastest time and cleanest run. The horse that finishes the quickest without dropping a barrel wins!
You can check out barrel racing at its official board.
------------
THOROUGHBRED RACING IS NOW A SEPARATE BOARD
It's so popular, it seemed silly to keep it in the Miscellaneous Shows board. TB racing is now located directly under "Western Shows" and will keep all of its current sub boards as they are - the location is just different.
------------
NOVICE VS ADVANCED SHOWS
Another major change. All "Novice" shows have been converted to simple "Regular" shows - any regular show still only accepts horses that are under 30 points and any "Novice" shows that you entered are still valid, past and current. The name has just been updated.
All "Advanced" shows are now sub-boards under their respective disciplines - you'll find Advanced Halter in the Halter board, Advanced In-Hand is in the In-Hand board, etc etc. All Advanced shows are for horses between 30 and 50 points, same as they were before. Combining these two boards makes it that much easier to find Advanced shows since they'll be pretty much staring at you in the face just above the regular shows.
I'm also looking to judge the popularity of Advanced Shows in general, so if you have thoughts on them - please let me know!
------------
NEW SHOW GUIDES INCOMING
Lordy this is a big one. I'll be going through EVERY. SINGLE. SHOWING GUIDE. and updating them for each discipline. I will NOT be changing how everything is judged - the original authors did a fantastic job creating them. I'll merely going through and updating any conflicting information that may clash with other disciplines or updating any broken links and images. Any show guides are that aren't in their respective boards will also be moved to the correct sub-forum.
I will also be creating a SHOW GUIDE MASTER LIST in the Showing Talk forum - it will link to EVERY show guide on the forum, so that way if someone has a question about posing, they can find the guide quick and easy before posting a question that is easily answered in the respective showing guide.
------------
NEW LAYOUT ALSO INCOMING
It's been several YEARS since we had a new layout, so why not? Any ideas and, more importantly, MODELS, would be quite welcome! I want to update the forum with a fresh look, and I'll post more about this later once the above are taken care of.
------------
Is that everything? No, not even close! But these are the major changes that will be happening in the coming days and weeks. I want to make SS more active and popular than ever, which means streamlining content, updating information, and making everything that much more accessible to new members. I hope you guys will be supportive of the new changes, so please PM me or comment if you have any thoughts or feelings on the matter.
