Race Replay
A few weeks ago, two year old champion Augustus put away his rivals with ease to rocket himself to the top of the class, but with one final prep of the season remaining, the bay colt is conspiciously absent after a tour de force in Dubai. With nine colts and one filly hitting the track without Augustus' long shadow looming over them, it's as wide open as it's been as we come to the final stop on the 2017 Road to the Roses!
Rhapsody leads the way with slight favorite Motive, who has already shown his talent with several wins already this season; Delirium, who looks to be rounding into the best form of his career heading into May, and Apparition, our dead closer looking to finally get there with that long-striding turn of foot. Turn & Burn comes back once more with Keen Ice, another closing colt that notched a win in the beginning of the season but has been struggling to regain that form. Hard Tack returns with stalwarts Upstart, fresh off a minor stakes victory just a week prior; Lost Hero, another last out winner and garnering his first victory of the season to boot; and Cat Scratch Fever, completing the trifecta of stakes wins for the trio in his prior race. Polluted Stables makes their first foray into the Triple Crown trail with Landon, a colt that has shown some ability sprinting and is jumping straight into the deep end this time around to prove his class. Burning Acres rounds out the field with Legionaire, who has since been making noise in the allowance ranks, and Purple Heart, the only filly and sporting a narrow second place finish in her previous race.
With these ten horses once again lining up for the final time before the main event, a rainstorm has stalled over the east coast to soak the track into a soupy mess. It's all on talent and class tonight as we line up for this year's edition of the Wood Memorial on our way to the roses!
The Road to the Kentucky Derby ENDS tonight on Seeing Stars!
