Race Replay
Two weeks ago, it is Girls! Girls! Girls! as Elysium blasted the competition into the ground with a seven furlong romp in the San Felipe. With only a few colts daring to take on this year's Derby trail, it's fillies on top in the last several Derby preps, and that's a trend that may continue this week as Elysium once again steps into the starting gate with six other rivals in this week's Arkansas Derby.
Hard Tack's Elysium is once again the favorite as she threatens to continue her domination of all three year old preps for both the Oaks and the Derby. The front running daughter of Ruffian is one of the most dangerous horses to race against this year, while male stablemates General Disarray and Lani have been regulated to background players, despite both either winning or hitting the board on their recent allowance preps. Rhapsody's Damask isn't far behind after scoring in a prep race earlier this week and shows good kick to run into the hot pace that Elysium is sure to set. Illicit is expected to be not far behind with Lark hot on her heels as these two fillies look to continue their upward swing through the ranks of both the TC trail and the allowance circuit. Riverside will round out the field with Dream Gazer, a promising three year old that has scored several facile victories in closed company but has yet to hit the board in the open fields of hte Triple Crown.
Spring is finally in the air on the east coast as the temperature climbs into the upper 50s and the horses are feeling frisky as they take to the main dirt course. Seven will contest this week's points extravaganza for the Derby, but only one horse can come out on top. It's time for this year's Arkansas Derby!
