Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Elysium continued her domination of the three year old ranks as she outlasted arch-rival Illicit to the finish in the Arkansas Derby. It's the year of the filly on the Derby trail in 2019, and it may just continue today as 8 colts and fillies take to the track for this year's Florida Derby.
Rhapsody's Illicit is once more the favorite after her 2nd place finish last week, with the crowd emphatic that she will triumph over the black freight train that is Elysium. Elyisum will settle for second choice despite scoring three Derby and Oaks preps in row, with stablemate Lani third choice after a sharp allowance victory last time out. Damask also has a recent win on his resume as he steps into the starting gaate, while Lark is still looking to pick up a piece after running well in her last several starts. General Disarray has hit the board in his last two starts but has yet to reach the winner's circle, while Riverside's Dream Gazer is looking to snap a losing streak on the Derby trail after winning several in a row. Newcomer Draconis won an allowance last out over older horses and is looking to parlay that form on the Road to the Roses, but as the longest shot on the board he has a ways to go before he may be able to make an impact on this field.
It's a bright and chilly day on the East Coast as winter finally seems to loosen its grip on the world, and these 8 frisky colts and fillies are looking to take advantage of a fast track as they all step into the gate for this year's Florida Derby!
The Road to the Derby continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
