Two weeks ago, Illicit roared to the wire first, holding off the determined charge of the 2019 Oaks winner Elysium, to become the first filly to win the Kentucky Derby in SS History. With her garland of spring roses, Illicit has taken the first jewel of the Triple Crown in true warrior fashion and comes to the Preakness to try for the Crown a second time for the second year in a row for Rhapsody. The war for the Crown moves to Baltimore, MD with the battlefield now Pimlico Racecourse, as Illicit and Elysium will renew their rivalry in the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

Call
Two weeks ago, Illicit tore the record books to shreds as for the first time in the Derby's history, a filly stormed to the wire first, putting away her archrival Elysium with a sustained drive through the stretch. Now with clouds gathering ominously over Old Hilltop, we move our attention to Baltimore, MD for the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes!
Illicit is the deserving favorite once more and looks to be a force to be reckoned with as she tries to become the first filly winner of the Triple Crown. Damask will be close behind her in the betting though, and he looks to be a dangerous contender after a series of on the board finishes and wins in graded stakes company. Oaks winner Elysium will be right on his tail and she'll do her best to play upsetter this time around, in echoes of Athena Watchover in 2015, as the only filly to date who has won the Preakness Stakes. General Disarray will find himself high up on the tote board this time around after a solid finish in the 2000 Guineas, and he'll do his best to emulate his Derby sister's form on the dirt. Lani is higher in the odds but he'll look to come from the clouds anyway to pick up the pieces if Elysium or Djinn drop the ball on the front end. And Djinn will be the unexpected longshot, with the 1000 Guineas winner always up in the mix of things but seemingly unable to transfer her turf form to the Tiara trail.
It's a small but talented field that takes to a lightning fast track and the parade is led by the filly Derby winner Illicit as they load into the gate for the 2019 edition of the Preakness Stakes.
The Road to the Triple Crown continues NOW on SS!
