Three weeks ago, Elysium continued her tear through the sophmore filly ranks, flying from off the pace to just hold off Derby winner Illicit to score her second victory in the Triple Tiara series. We move to Belmont Park for the shortest of the trio of races, the 1 mile Acorn Stakes that will make or break her Triple Tiara hopes. Her mother Ruffian is a dual Breeders' Cup winner and her brother is a Belmont Stakes winner; can she add to the silver of her family's crowns? With Triples in 2015, 2017 and 2018 we are drowning in Tiara riches - but a hat trick would be icing on the cake.

Call
Three weeks ago, Elysium rallied from just off the lead to finish just a nose in front of Derby winner Illicit in a thrilling edition of the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes to snatch the second jewel of the Triple Tiara and earn her shot at immortality. Now at beautiful Belmont Park, six fillies will line up for the final test - the 1 mile Acorn Stakes, the shortest of the series but also the trickiest. Not all fillies can handle the sweeping one turn mile and all but two have come up short when it really counted.
Elysium is the well deserving favorite here today, standing a head above the rest of the field as she looks for one more chance at racing history to become the fourth Triple Tiara winner. Illicit isn't far behind however, and the only female Kentucky Derby winner looks to take a bit of her rival's hide for finishing in front of her in the Preakness and dashing her own Triple chances. Lark is the third choice on the board after a good showing in graded stakes company, and Noble Hierarch will sit at three-to-one as well after winning the Epsom Oaks in decisive fashion on the turf. Djinn will look for one last chance to prove herself on the classics trail after several off the board finishers, and Messalina, a stalwart in the turf Triple Tiara, will try her luck on the dirt at a mile after a solid third in her graded stakes debut.
It's a gang of familiar faces and flying dirt as these six fillies take to the track for the final filly spring classic. History is waiting - whether it is in the agony of the fallen or the immortality of the victor, it all comes down to 8 short furlongs on the main Belmont track.
The Triple Tiara all comes to an end NOW on Seeing Stars!
