Race Replay
Last week, Mesmerize ran down reigning Triple Tiara queen Elysium, nailing her younger rival by a thrilling nose in the shadow of the wire to sew up her trip to the Breeders' Cup in November.
This week, Elysium looks to avenge that loss and will be the narrow favorite today, looking to transform her front running speed into victory. 2017 Triple Tiara winner will follow closely on her heels as the second choice, after a solid third place effort last out and losing by less than two lengths. Kentucky Derby winner Illicit is third on the morning line after a head-scratching fifth place in the Personal Ensign and will have to shake off the rust from her short layoff after the spring classics. Tipsy is tied with Illicit at 7 - 2, and the grey bay beauty makes her first appearance in the Breeders' Cup qualifiers looking for her first win in over a year. Lark will look to improve her season after a series of ups and downs during the spring that saw her finish 2nd in the Kentucky Oaks but falter after that. Reverence brings up the rear of the field, figuratively and literally, as the closing bay mare will look to keep her streak alive after winning her last graded stakes race by open lengths.
It's a beautiful day for a horse race with the sun shining after morning thunderstorms, and the track is lightning fast as these six fillies take to the track for that second coveted spot for this year's Breeders' Cup Distaff.
The Road to the Breeders' Cup continues NOW on SS!
