Race Replay
In last week's Spectacular Bid, it was a battle of of the Triples with 2019 Tiara winner Elysium just holding off 2018 Tiara Heretic Queen by a fast diminishing length - with a Derby and Preakness winner hot on their heels. With only one more free spot available in the Turf, it's no holds barred as these final six colts and fillies battle it out to the wire.
Rhapsody's Mesmerize will hold sway today after earning her spot in the Distaff and the filly that has earned the nickname Giant Killer will look to continue that tradition today as she takes on the heavyweights of the division. Derby winner Illicit came up only a length short last time out against her archrival Elysium but she's out for revenge to earn her place in the Classic. 2018 Tiara winner Heretic Queen is out for more than revenge - she's out for blood after having been denied by only the slimmiest of margins last out and already besting her rival for the Distaff. Preakness winner Damask will have to stay on these fillies' heels if he wants a shot at glory, a strategy that worked well to earn him a number of graded victories. General Disarray will find himself tucked in behind all four if all goes to plan, but the dark bay son of Chaos has a tendency to attract his own brand of bad luck with a stop and start running style. Longest shot of all Lani comes in fresh off a Grade II victory and steps into the ring for the first time, but may just be in over his pretty grey head.
There's a heat wave mugging the East Coast this weekend but that hasn't stopped our entrants from shining like diamonds as they head to the main track for the final time. With only one more spot left for the Breeders' Cup Classic, it'll be a slugfest to the wire for that final free trip in the 2019 Cigar Handicap!
