Race Replay
Last week saw Bad Wolf continue the Hard Tack domination of the BC dirt sprints, as bay colt held off a three-prong charge from the Rhapsody contingent to prevail by a diminishing neck at the wire. With only one more free spot available, it's down to this tiny field of four as they slug it out to the wire in this year's Gulch Handicap.
Rhapsody's Overdraft is the favorite today after winning this race in 2016 and he's looking for a repeat today as the only speed horse in the field. Chantilly is hot on his heels and figures to be right on his tail in the running, as this snow-white mare has proven dangerous with a fast pace and a free-wheeling target to reel in. Shared Belief may be the unluckiest so far of the BC entrants, finishing second and third by only necks and noses, despite displaying a usually devastating turn of foot that would win a race at any other time. Toulouse brings up the rear as Blue Jay enters their first BC horse of the year, but the black colt may be way out of his element as he enters a months-long losing skid in a bid for glory.
The temperatures have dropped and a bite of autumn is in the air as the trees around the East Coast begin their slow march to winter. Cooler weather, however, means we're one step closer to the Breeders' Cup and with one final spot on the line here today, it'll be a rodeo to the finish between these four horses and mare as they line up in the gate for this year's Gulch Handicap!
