Race Replay
It's a new week and we're down to our final round of preps for this year's Breeders' Cup! We're back to the turf for the first qualifying race for the BC Mile, and it's a field of seven crack turf sprinters and milers to vie for the winner's circle in this year's Miesque Memorial Stakes.
Rhapsody's Bolo will lead the post parade as the narrow favorite, coming off a G2 score in his most recent start with a number of graded stakes on his handsome resume. Lustre is back again at a flat mile after punching his ticket to the 12-furlong turf, and the cutback in distance may be to his liking due to the quick pace he needs to close into. Airdrie Apache is third choice today and the flashy red colt has shown a marked propensity for turf in recent starts, as well as a quick turn of foot on the lead. Chihenne is right there with him and like Lustre, is a dead closer that will be waiting on Apache to give her something good into run into. Sagittarius rounds out our trio of closers and the bay mare has shown some ability in the past, but has yet to round back into form in any of her BC preps. Djinn is back from a layoff since spring, when she competed in the grueling series of spring classics, and she'll look to make her name on turf this time around after coming up short on the main track. Shizuka is the longest shot of all in double digits, but the price may be a juicy enticement to all punters, as this red mare has been known to outrun her odds and has already won at last asking.
After days of rain and clouds it's finally a clear but crisp day on the East Coast - perfect weather for a horse race! It's seven to take to the turf here today but only one will end up in the winner's circle for that coveted free spot in the Breeders' Cup. It's gates closed for this year's Miesque Memorial Handicap!
