Race Replay
It's a new week and we're down to our final round of preps for this year's Breeders' Cup! We move the action to the dirt for the first qualifying race for the BC Dirt Mile, and it's a field of seven crack turf sprinters to vie for the winner's circle in this year's Forego Memorial Stakes.
Rhapsody's Overdraft will lead the parade today and the speedy bay colt has already his place in the BC Sprint using his catch me if you can tactics that he's sure to employ again this time around. Lani will be hot on his heels and is another who's earned a place in the Sprint, and he'll be counting on Overdraft to give him a nice hot pace to close into. Preakness winner Damask is tied for second choice here and while he has yet to win a BC prep, he's come close on several occasions and is knocking on the door to all expenses paid trip to the BC. Tipsy is a newcomer to the BC scene and she's coming off a long layoff that last saw her competing in Dubai, where she used her closing speed to hit the board in a number of races. Bad Wolf, another who's punched his BC ticket, has recently found shorter races to his liking and while he's record isn't nearly as pretty as the rest of the field, he's gotten better with age and may be rounding into form. Airdrie Apache is the longshot today but not by much, as this flashy red colt has shown he has speed to spare and can run for days - but only if he gets his way.
After days of rain and clouds it's finally a clear but crisp day on the East Coast - perfect weather for a horse race! It's six to take to the main track here today but only one will end up in the winner's circle for that coveted free spot in the Breeders' Cup. It's gates closed for this year's Forego Memorial Handicap!
