Race Replay
Last week, Lani earned his second BC berth after the Sprint, holding off a determined Overdraft by a mere head as they slugged it out to the wire. Today, Overdraft is back along with five more rivals as switch our focus to the main dirt track today for this year's Shackleford!
Rhapsody's Overdraft leads the way today after heartbreak last out, and this plucky bay wont' go down without another fight if someone else dares to get in his way to the winner's circle. Shared Belief will be hot on his heels with the late-running colt looking to make up some proverbial ground against his stablemates with a BC berth. Mesmerize the Giant Killer is tied on the betting public's eye with her younger stablemate, as the filly who nearly upset two Triple Crowns will look to topple her stablemates in yet another upset to the wire. Bad Wolf, already an entrant for the Sprint, will look to stretch out to a mile and while he has yet to win at one, he's shown his proclivity for shorter distances in this late season. Acrimony will follow right behind and the former Oaks contender will look to add to her already shining resume with a win on the BC stage. Airdrie Apache is the longest shot yet again, and after firing a dud in the Da Hoss, there seems little enthusiam from the crowd for the cantankerous red colt from Hard Tack.
The first frost of the year has gilded the dirt course silver in the morning but the sun is now shining and setting our horses gleaming like diamonds. It's six to take to the turf here today but only one will end up in the winner's circle for that coveted free spot in the Breeders' Cup. It's gates closed for this year's Shackleford Handicap!
