Race Replay
Last week, Chihenne roared to the wire in stakes-record time with a devestating turn of foot that left her rivals reeling to secure her spot in the Breeders' Cup. Today, another lucky six horses will line up for that third spot in the BC Turf Sprint, as they tackle 7 furlongs in this year's Phalaris Stakes!
Turn & Burn's Sagittarius will once more lead the post parade, having hit the board finally in a BC prep last week and showing marked improvement in the morning as we inch closer to the BC. Shizuka will be right there with her after a series of hard-luck second place finishes, as she fights the unrelenting curse that someone seems to have laid on her. Palenque is third choice today after finally scoring in a G2 stakes, but she'll have company on the lead today in the form of War Hero, who has scored his best wins striking out to the front and leaving his rivals in the dust. Vice Versa is fifth choice today and she'll try to turn her own bad luck around after failing to hit the board once in all of her BC preps. Toulouse is the longest shot on the board in double digits and while the hard-trying colt may be in over his head, he never fails to at least put some effort in before the wire.
We're less than a week from Halloween, but it's all treats today as the weather is sparkling clear and the horses shimmering in their costumes of BC saddlecloths. It's six to take to the turf here today but only one will end up in the winner's circle for that coveted free spot in the Breeders' Cup. It's gates closed for this year's Phalaris Stakes!
