Race Replay
Last week, Lustre continued his winning ways to thunder to his third BC-berth of the year and hold off the late-rally of the hard-trying Shizuka. Today, another lucky seven horses will line up for that third spot in the BC Mile, as they tackle 8 furlongs in this year's Goldikova Stakes!
Turn & Burn's Sagittarius will lead the way today, as the narrow favorite will look to improve on her third and fifth place finishes in last week's BC trials. Shizuka will be hot on her heels after two more solid second place placings, as nothing but bad luck has prevented this little bay mare from parading to the winner's circle. Regal already has her place in the BC locked up but she's going for a twofer in the BC Mile to solidify her place among the turf greats. Chihenne also has a berth in the Turf Sprint and she'll try to stretch out that closing speed to a mile, arguably her worst distance. Two-time Classic winner Noble Hierarch will cut back sharply in distance, as both her Classic wins come at 12 furlongs on both turf and dirt, but she's shown short-range talent on the turf in her British trials. Vice Versa is second-longest on the line after a series of off-the board finishes and she'll have to really step up her game if she wants that coveted place in the BC Mile. Wren is the longest shot of all but the only speed horse in the field, a position she has often relished in her series of turf victories as she runs her competition off their feet.
We're less than a week from Halloween, but it's all treats today as the weather is sparkling clear and the horses shimmering in their costumes of BC saddlecloths. It's seven to take to the turf here today but only one will end up in the winner's circle for that coveted free spot in the Breeders' Cup. It's gates closed for this year's Goldikova Stakes!
