Race Replay
It's that time of year again as new foals gambol in the field and winter descends in earnest on the country. For all new minted three year olds, however, it means that the race is on for the coveted Crown of spring Classics, and today we embark on that journey with six fabulous fillies all vying for a spot in the Kentucky Oaks!
Dekada's newly crowned two-year-old filly champion Girl Gone Wild will lead the post parade after a stellar juvenile season and boasts a pedigree that promises the speed and stamina needed for the eventual 9 furlongs of the now-distant Oaks. Flashy Buchiko of Hard Tack is nearly as short of a price, and she's shown her own steady brilliance with wins and places in allowance company as she works her way up the ladder. Coco is Lavender Hill's first Oaks contender and they're starting out strong, as the splashed brindle filly has shown deadly speed on the lead and a tendency to run her opponents into the dirt. Under The Mask is Dekada's second Oaks hopeful and sports her own blue blood, but the front-running filly has had trouble finding the winner's circle recently, especially if conditions aren't completely perfect for her way of running. Groupie Doll is another filly that has had trouble finding the right rhythm in her latest races, often finding herself crowded inside and unable to find the wherewithal to get herself out of trouble. Dapper Doll is the longest shot on the board, but doesn't lack in the looks department; her talent, however, is up for debate, and her juvenile success hasn't transferred to her sophomore campaign so far.
It's a dreary day to start the Triple Tiara trail, with clouds low in the sky and threatening more rain that has turned our main track into a veritable dirt soup. That hasn't stopped the fillies from sparkling under the lights as they take to the track, and it'll be six to load up into the gate for this year's Silverbulletday Stakes!
The Road to the Oaks begins NOW on Seeing Stars!
