Well first off, sorry about the Hanoverian, next I love Chips name, I myself would not change the horse's name because that is most likely his reg. show name which can not be changed, that I know of or it would cost some money to do so. Plus the horse is an older horse and I do not think he would understand being called some thing other than Chip lol. That being said, he will be your horse. You can call him any thing you like, but in the shows he will have to be Chipaholic has that would be his reg. show name. I think his name is very Cool myself =D. Show names are given to a foal when the foal is reg. with its breed registry, if Chip was a foal than you would have been able to give him his name. Quarter Horses are very smart and they do well in just about any thing that they are taught to do. I have never done English type riding so I have never heard about the Vetting thing unless it is the health check that you are talking about here, before you buy a horse from the seller. Vetting for english riding horses may be different than just a the horse is okay to buy because it is healthy and can handle a rider on its back, no cogins, ect. .... Good luck on your new horse quest, I am sure you will love that horse no matter its name or breed. =D Most horses have been reg. with some club or breed club when they were foals, so unless the horse has never been reg. with a show name, only than will you be able to give the show name that you want for your new horse. But like I said, I do not no if you can re-register a horse once it has been registered. My own AQH Baron was reg. has Baron Harlon with the AQHA when he was a foal, I did not have his papers because he was sort of left at the stable I was working at by the owner Baron has always known from the information I got from the stable owner. Baron was only ten years old when I had him in my life, that year was a bitter sweet year for me. I was able to reg. Baron with his color club - he was a buckskin using his reg. number from AQHA (the number was in AQHA database) and than I had papers for Baron. But he was reg. with his color club using his reg. show name of Baron Harlon.
