Race Replay
Last week, Motive held off the determined drive of Augustus in deep stretch to just prevail in the Arkansas Derby, leading from gate to wire to notch his second Derby prep. Motive leads the fray with two wins on the trail but with the addition of several new horses on the trail to the Derby, it got that much harder for the speedy black colt to prevail as we continue down the road to that first Saturday in May!
Sunfire Stables once more leads the parade with Augustus, champion male two year old and heavy favorite heading into this week's prep. He missed by a mere half length last time and looks to avenge himself against his foes. Rhapsody returns with Apparition, another top two year old that was a late addition to the Derby trail, and a dead closer that does his best running from off the pace; Motive returns once more to keep his streak alive and is the only speed in the race, which has served him quite well in the past. Hard Tack returns with Upstart, who has tailed off form recently but still looms dangerous, and Lost Hero, another colt on the upswing that looks to pull the upset after coming close several times. Turn & Burn comes in swinging with Keen Ice, another dead closer that's already snatched up a win on the Derby trail, while Burning Acres comes in with Legionaire and Purple Heart, a colt and a filly looking to take a big step up in class after running in allowance company. With eight horses now to fill the gate on this snowy Midwestern night, it's a race that'll be contested over the first off track on the trail as we load up into the gate for this year's Florida Derby!
The Road to the Roses continues now on SS!
