Race Replay
It's that time of year again as new foals gambol in the field and winter descends in earnest on the country. For all new minted three year olds, however, it means that the race is on for the coveted Crown of spring Classics, and today we embark on that journey with sevent fabulous fillies all vying for a spot in the Kentucky Oaks!
Rhapsody has a strong contigent again this year after Songbird's smashing success in 2017, and there's big hoofsteps to fill as Mesmerize leads the way as the narrow favorite. Cursed, daughter of second-place Belmont finisher Riparian, clocks in as the fourth choice along with Cynic, a full sister to Heretic Queen, both being the daughters of 2016 Oaks winner Cyclone Princess and 2016 Derby winner Skeptic. Hard Tack brings back top two year filly Heretic Queen as the narrow third choice here while Acrimony, daughter of 2016 Belmont Stakes winner Rancor, clocks in second choice after a strong but short juvenile campaign. Hawkstone Stables returns with the sole daughter of Athena Watchover 2015 Triple Tiara winner, as the sharp second choice on the morning line, while Redeemed is the longest shot on the board in double digits and looking a hot pace to close into.
It's a sunny but bitterly cold day on the East Coast, with the rest of the country ramping up for tomorrow's Super Bowl. Here at the track, however, it's all about the ladies as these seven primed and ready fillies enter the gate for this year's Silverbulletday Stakes.
The Road to the Oaks begins NOW on Seeing Stars!
