Race Replay
Two weeks ago, we started this road to the Roses with a bang as Heretic Queen roared to the wire to become the first filly to win the Rebel Stakes in SS history! This week, she looks to have a tougher time of it as nine colts and fillies take to the track for a shot at the Derby starting gate.
BlueJay Stable once again leads the way with Passero, as the bay colt looks to rebound after a poor effort in the Rebel. Hawkstone returns with Davona Dale victress Lady of Athens, looking to emulate her mother from three years ago on the Derby trail; and introduces Other Worlds, a half brother to Lady of Athens and a late running colt that missed only by a neck in his first race. Paperbark makes their TC debut with Fifth Month, a grey bullet of a filly that has proven to be hard to catch and hard to pass on the lead; Hard Tack comes storming right back with Heretic Queen, a winner last out on the TC trail, and Fulgurite, a front running colt that is struggling to regain the form that saw him blaze through the juvenile ranks. Rhapsody rounds out the field with Shared Belief, a late running colt looking to pick off all these front runners at the end; Scandal, another son of Skeptic that has made some noise in the juvenile ranks; and Cynic, full sister to Heretic Queen and another late running filly that will be anticipating a pace meltdown late in the race.
It's a sunny day now that calls for a helluva storm in the evening, so these electric colts and filllies better do their best running before the thunder comes as they line up in the gate for this year's San Felipe Stakes.
The Road to the Kentucky Derby continues NOW on SS!
