Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Lady of Athens notched her second win on the Oaks trail with a gutsy run against rival Heretic Queen, edging that dark bay filly by a fast diminishing length. She returns this week along with six other challengers to take to the track as the sun finally cracks the cloud cover of a once dreary month.
Hard Tack's Heretic Queen lords favoritism this time around as the narrow first choice, and she'll be looking to avenge her last out defeat after tuning up with a facile stakes win last out. Acrimony joins her sister on the trail but will have to take a big step forward after a third in an allowance test a few days ago. Hawkstone's Lady of Athens is nipping on Heretic's heels with both fillies at two wins each, and will once again look to run them off their feet with a front running effort; stablemate Redeemed will just have to worry about keeping up with the field after a series of losing efforts. Rhapsody's Mesmerize refuses to be left behind in the betting and the third choice has history going for her, as the bay filly has been a model of consistency this year. Stablemate Cynic clocks in as the fourth choice after a breakthrough win last out and Cursed follows close behind as she looks to pick up the pieces from a possible pace meltdown from the top two.
A breath of spring is in the air as the temperatures have finally soared into the 50s here on the East Coast, and it's a fast and bright track ready for these seven fabulous fillies as we line up for this year's Fairground Oaks!
The Road to the Oaks continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
