Race Replay
Two weeks ago, two year champ Passero finally had his day in the sun on the Derby trail as he demolished his rivals with a romp in the Florida Derby. Today we continue the road to the Derby at Gulfstream Park as the sun finally breaks through the clouds with a promise of spring.
Rhapsody's Pagan is the narrow favorite today after a second place finish last out in the Fountain of Youth and ready for revenge. Stablemates Shared Belief and Scandal aren't close behind, with Shared Belief looking for that breakthrough late run and Scandal hoping to run them off their feet. BlueJay's Passero is the close second choice here off a last out win in a black type stakes, making it two in a row in addition to the Florida Derby. Hard Tack returns with Heretic Queen, already a winner on the Derby trail and current heavy favorite for the Oaks in a month, and Fulgurite, a once sharp juvenile that is fading fast from stardom with several subpar performances. Hawkstone rounds out the field with Lady of Athens, the second choice favorite for the Oaks and another Derby trail winner; Other Worlds, looking to make good on a close third place finish last out, and Redeemed, once again the underdog and longest shot on the board.
A breath of spring is in the air as the temperatures have finally soared into the 50s here on the East Coast, and it's a fast and bright track ready for these nine colts and fillies as we line up for this year's Fountain of Youth Stakes!
The Road to the Derby continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
