Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Heretic Queen resumed her domination of the sophmore filly ranks as she roared past a free on the lead Lady of Athens to strike for her third win on the Oaks trail. With rain and thunder scouring the East Coast, it could prove to be a different story this time out as those two arch rivals square off again along with five other 3 year old fillies in this year's Ashland Stakes.
Heretic Queen is the obvious choice today after her strong showing in the Fairground Oaks and will be looking to make up for her uncharacteristically dull showing in Dubai; sister Acrimony can only hope for some improvement in general, coming off a last place finish in an allowance test against lesser company. Mesmerize is not far behind in the rankings despite having one only once on the Oaks trail, but the small bay filly is all heart and all tenacity; stablemets Cynic and Cursed are both looking for their time in the sun after some sharp placings in allowance company and itching for an upset. Lady of Athens is raring to go as the third choice and is the only other filly with multiple wins on the Oaks trail, and the biggest rival to the two year old filly champ; Redeemed will once again have to take her place at the rear of the field, as the late running filly has had no luck in this year's series, despite a good second in an allowance race a few starts back.
It's April showers that may bring some May flowers for the winner of this prep, as our 7 fabulous fillies take to the soupy main track for this year's Ashland Stakes!
The Road to the Oaks continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
