It's the first Friday (just pretend) in May and that means the Kentucky Oaks is finally here! With only small fields going to the post this year, it has nonetheless proven to be an exciting ride as these 9 fillies look to emulate the record shattering ways of Songbird from 2017. This is the ultimate test for 3 year old dirt fillies in the country, and it's been a battle of the titans as the regally bred Lady of Athens and Heretic Queen have traded blows throughout the prep season. With the big race finally here, will it be one of these two fillies or another of the top sophomore distaffers entered in the race? It all comes down to talent and heart in a stellar field that has assembled for this year's Kentucky Oaks.

It's the first Friday in May (sure it is) and the rain that has poured all week has taken a break to give us a cloudy, but fast track under the twin spires here at Churchill Downs. Seven fillies will take to the track after two steward scratches but it's a field loaded with talent and impeccable bloodlines taking to the track.
Champion 2 Year Old Filly Heretic Queen leads the way as the heavy favorite, as this daughter of an Oaks and Derby winner has big horseshoes to fill and a long shadow to cast. She's followed by Rhapsody's Mesmerize, another graded stakes winner on the Lily Road, wit Lady of Athens not far behind as the third choice and one of the top fillies to run in this year's racing series. Cursed is higher on the board than her talent suggests, with a number of minor stakes wins this year; Cynic, a full sister to Heretic Queen, has inherited some of her parents' talent, but has not had a full chance to shine in the shadow of our towering Top 3. Acrimony is double digits after placing in several allowance races, and Redeemed is the longest shot of all after she's failed to hit the board in her last few stars.
With heavy clouds threatening more rain, it'll be a race against the weather too as these seven fillies load into the gate, but through the wind and the rain, there is no stopping these ladies from their ultimate goal - a cornation of lillies.
The Run for the Lillies begins NOW on Seeing Stars!
