It's the first Saturday (just pretend) in May and that means the Kentucky Derby is finally here! With a fairly split field of 11 of colts and fillies, it's a spectacular group that will battle it out for this year's coveted prize of the Triple Crown. It's been a topsy turvy spring as it has been two fillies that are on top of the Kentucky Derby leader list - Heretic Queen and Lady of Athens, both daughters of Kentucky Oaks winners and both the top choice for this year's Oaks. Pagan is looking to make it a battle of the sexes as the top three are separated by less than 10 points and all have taken turns beating each other up over the spring. It'll be a near full field once again for this year's renewal, and the implications for this year's Triple Crown are enormous as it all comes down to the wire.

It's the first Saturday in May and the track is a quagmire as the torrential rains during the week once more slammed the twin spires at Churchill Downs. 9 soggy sophmore colts and fillies are lined up for this year's Kentucky Derby, and it is a race loaded with speed to spare.
Rhapsody's Pagan leads the parade as the narrow favorite, coming off an easy win in his final prep during the year old festival; Heretic Queen is hot on his heels as the top filly in the race, with Scandal not far behind in the betting. Shared Belief, one of only three closers in the race, is fourth choice; Lady of Athens, a top choice on the Oaks trail, and Fulgurite, another speedy lightning bolt of a colt, are there in single digits, while champion 2 year old male Passero is the highest odds he's been since debuting. Other Worlds is double digits and out of his pay grade in top company, while Redeemed can only be said to be treading water as the longest shot on the board.
The storm shows no signs of abating as the horses load into the gate, and the track is sloppy as they come but with a number of horses already sporting wins after off going, it should be no damper on the day's activities as the field of 9 hits the track for this year's Kentucky Derby!
