Two weeks (ish) ago we saw Heretic Queen sprint from the gate and lead the field from wire to wire to add the first jewel of the Triple Tiara to her crown in the Kentucky Oaks. With the first leg of the Triple Tiara down, Heretic Queen steps into the ring again to take on all comers as the war moves to Baltimore, MD and the storied Pimlico Racecourse for the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. With Songbird's 2017 triumph fresh in the minds of trainers and fans alike, this dark bay daughter of the 2016 Black-Eyed Susan winner will look to make it a double in more ways than one as we expect a top group of fillies to contest this year's middle jewel of the Triple Tiara.

With the heavens opening up and turning Old Hilltop into a quicksand-like mire, Heretic Queen will have to find new legs to carry her on to victory in the slop as we arrive in Maryland for the second jewell of the Triple Tiara!
Once again, Heretic Queen will step out first as the sharp favorite after her facile score in the Oaks. Rhapsody's Mesmerize is not far behind and is looking for chinks in the Queen's armor in the second spot, while Lady of Athens is out for revenge after settling for second two weeks ago. Full sister Cynic is trying to outdo Heretic Queen's with some good recent placings, while Cursed will look to regain form that saw her win a number of stakes as a juvenile. Acrimony is out of her depth but always a tryer after a good allowance placement, while Redeemed is spinning her wheels in deep company to round out this small field for today's race.
It's a small but shining field that takes to the mud once more for this week's race, and the parade is led by the gritty Heretic Queen as they load into the gate for the 2018 edition of the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes.
