Two weeks (ish) ago, Pagan stormed to the wire first in the Kentucky Derby to collar pacesetter Passero and hold off the furious charge of Oaks winner Heretic Queen to win by a narrow half length. With his garland of spring roses, Pagan has taken the first jewel of the Triple Crown in true warrior fashion and comes to the Preakness to try for the Crown a second time for his owner Rhapsody Stable. The war for the Crown moves to Baltimore, MD with the battlefield now Pimlico Racecourse, as Pagan looms large over his rivals new and old in the second Jewel of the Triple Crown.

Two weeks ago, Pagan outdueled both Passero and Heretic Queen as their two-pronged attack failed to stop the charging red comet storming to the wire first in the Kentucky Derby. With rain and fog turning the Pimlico track into an 1880s Victorian London alleyway, it will take all of Pagan's courage and stamina to outduel both his opponents and the weather in the Preakness Stakes!
Pagan is the deserving heavy favorite after his scintillating Derby victory, with Oaks winner Heretic Queen hot on his heels and looking for redemption after her third place finish. Passero is right there with him after a close second in the Derby, with Fulgurite not far behind after faltering in the Derby, and Shared Belief looking to improve after his fourth place finish two weeks ago. Lady of Athens, second in the Oaks, is on the upswing after a good third in the Black-Eyed Susan, while Scandal must bump up his game after an uncharacteristic out of money finish inthe Derby. Other Worlds rounds out the field as this allowance winner continues his swim in the deep end of the pool.
It's a small but talented field that takes to the slop once more for this week's race, and the parade is led by the charismatic Pagan as they load into the gate for the 2018 edition of the Preakness Stakes.
