Race Replay
It's that time of year again as new foals gambol in the field and winter descends in earnest on the country. For all new minted three year olds, however, it means that the race is on for the coveted Crown of spring Classics, and today we embark on that journey with six rough and ready colts and fillies all vying for a spot in the Kentucky Derby!
It's a short field to start out the year, and it's a filly to lead the way as Rhapsody's Illicit is the supreme crowd favorite today. Her stablemate Lark is not far behind as the second choice and talent coming out of her ears; grey Lani is next in line and the hard closing colt is sure to make some noise on the road to the Roses, along with the smokey Damask, the son of two Triple contenders of years' past. General Disarray is Illicit's full brother and lower on the betting totem pole after several subpar efforts, but the dark bay colt has talent to spare once he gets his act together. Last in line is Elysium, daughter of the champion Ruffian and, dangerously, the only front running entrant in the field who will look to control the tempo in this first of the Derby preps.
It's a sunny but excessively windy day here on the East Coast, with the surrounding trees nearly bent over backwards in the onslaught. Here at the track, however, it's all about the Crown as these six primed and ready colts and fillies enter the gate for this year's Rebel Stakes.
The Road to the Kentucky Derby begins NOW on SS!
