This is a 4-day Novice Eventing Clinic open to any horses that have a value of 3 or less in each of the Eventing stats so, most novice-level as well as brand-new Eventers will be accepted.

There are two ways to enter a horse in this clinic:
1. If you already have Eventing poses, you can simply fill in the form below and enter here.
2. If you don't have any Eventing poses, or are missing one, visit the posing service, fill in the form and send your horse to me and I will pose them for you and enter them into the competition myself.

Day 1: Training - all horses and riders will be worked with individually. Horses will receive 3 stat boosts to be determined by the trainer (me)
Day 2: Dressage competition
Day 3: Cross-Country competition
Day 4: Show Jumping competition, final tally of points, and awards - horses will receive stat boosts to be determined by how well they performed all three days (the number of which will be determined based on the total number of horses enrolled)

I encourage anyone and everyone to enroll in the clinic as it is a great way to build up some stats, and also get some poses if you don't have them.

There will be a graphic award you can keep to put in your horses' stables for participating in the clinic.

As the outcomes of the competitions will be completely random (based on dice rolls), I plan on entering horses of my own.

Rules

♦ Up to 4 horses per person
♦ Unlimited entries total
♦ Only horses that have a value between 1 and 3 in all the Eventing stats are accepted!
♦ Poses must face right, be in GIF or PNG format, and unedited
♦ No angry, worried, or sleepy expressions
♦ Full-grown adults only
♦ The clinic stops accepting entries on March 21st & will be held March 22nd - 25th (I hope)
Any horse with poses not in keeping with the official Eventing guide will be disqualified. If you're not sure, send them to me for free posing!

DAY 1

(there are some images but they're not meant to represent anyone's horses in particular, just thought they would look nice!)

As most of the horses in the clinic are more experienced with Dressage and Show Jumping, having participated in competitions for one or both disciplines already, the decision was made to focus most of the training today on Cross-Country.

There was a lot of rain and a little bit of snow here overnight. Spring has barely begun and while it was warm and sunny yesterday for all the horses' arrivals, Winter is still trying to keep hold and it was a cold, cloudy, foggy morning that everyone awoke to. Regardless, the anticipation and excitement for the day ahead rippled through everyone all the way to the horses, making them restless in their stalls as they eagerly awaited their breakfast and got tacked up for the lessons today.

The fog cleared as everyone made their way to the Dressage arena, where each horse was put through its paces and they worked on changing gaits fluidly, turning gracefully, and coming to a straight halt from a trot with no walking steps in between. A good halt is harder to do than you would think. During the Dressage session, it was identified that Vickie had a tendency to be a little crooked in the halt, so she may need further practice. Lass might also benefit from more practice, as she seemed to never fully relax during the halt.

After the shorter Dressage session, the group moved to another arena set up with jumps. Here, the horses shined as all looked to be confident and have good form over the jumps. Lass had a tendency to lean right on some of the jumps but after some extra individual work, she was jumping as straight as the rest.

After their individual jumping sessions, each combination moved out to work on exposure and confidence with popular Cross-Country obstacles: banks and ditches.

After a generous four-hour break for lunch, discussion, and tips, the sun had finally come out and it had warmed up a bit. The horses got tacked up again to go work on building confidence in the water by first getting in and out and walking, then trotting, through it. Once their confidence was high, they had an added jump to exit the water, and if that went well, they worked on jumping into and landing in the water. All the riders and trainers took it nice and slow and at the end everyone was having fun and confidence was high. Although at the end, everyone was definitely ready to get out of their damp clothing because it was still a bit chilly even with the sunshine. The Chincoteague ponies did extremely well in the water, which was not surprising, given their background. What they lack in long legs, they make up for with tenacity and confidence.

It was a very successful day and the horses are currently out grazing in a nearby pasture before they'll be put up for the night while the riders watch videos and talk amongst themselves sharing tips and experiences.

The first day of competition (Dressage) will be tomorrow! Luckily, all the horses gained lots of training and had a positive experience today. Each will gain some stats, as follows, and these stats will be added to their scores for the competition over the following three days! (please don't edit your posts or anything, I'll add them myself)

Today is the first day of competition! Dressage starts at 2pm and is expected to be over by 4pm. Riders are scrambling around trying to get their horse and tack as clean and spiffy-looking as possible before the start.

DAY 3

(This is really early day 3 since I'm going to be gone most of the day)

Today was the Cross-Country competition! Held late morning, it was a little chilly - especially going through the two water obstacles! Fortunately, grooms were standing by to walk off the horses and ponies while helpers were ready with towels and hot cocoa for the riders as they finished the course.

Judge's scorecard:

Charisma was the only horse to complete the course under the time limit with no faults! She'll surge ahead to #1, but did she spend all her energy today or will she be able to hang onto the lead through the Show Jumping competition?

DAY 4

Today is the last day of the clinic and the Show Jumping competition! Some of the horses and ponies are looking a bit tired after yesterday, but the riders all have a bounce in their step as they feed the horses and start preparing. It's been a successful clinic for all involved and everyone will go home with a teasure trove of new knowledge and experience to help them in their Eventing competitions.

It's a sunny afternoon here in Colorado and an optimist might even say it's warm. Now's the time to see if Charisma has anything left to give after blasting through the Cross-Country course yesterday.

Judge's scorecard:

There were a few completely clear rounds by Lass, Stormy, and Bud, well done! Charisma must have had nothing left for today. The notoriously stubborn (and understandingly tired) mare knocked over some rails and refused a jump, thus coming in with a very low score which will move her from the lead down to the middle of the pack.

Final scores are the total of Dressage, Cross-Country, and Show Jumping, minus faults. Scores in parentheses indicate tiebreakers.

Placements 1-5 will receive 3 stat points, placements 6-10 will receive 2 stat points, and 11-14 will receive 1 stat point.

Ties were broken based on the total score without stats (as we usually do on SS) and, as there was still a tie in a crucial placements break, 5th-6th, I looked up how they really break ties in Eventing:

"In the event of equality between two or more Athletes, the classification is decided by:
a) The best cross-country score including penalties for faults at obstacles, time penalties and any other penalty that he may have incurred on the Cross Country Test.
b) If there is still equality, the classification is decided in favour of the Athlete whose crosscountry time was closest to the optimum time.
c) If there is still equality, the Athlete with the best Jumping score including penalties at
obstacles and time penalties"...etc.

Also, you will all earn one EXTRA raffle ticket for an upcoming raffle of two Anglo-Arabians. (If you want one.) These horses are ideal for Eventing, so Eventers should get an extra shot at taking one home.

Additionally, don't forget to add the stats gained from training and the competition! (Check Day 1 for the training stats assigned by me!) For the competition, placements 1-5 will receive 3 stat points, placements 6-10 will receive 2 stat points, and 11-14 will receive 1 stat point. If you earned multiple points from competition, you can choose to break those up and split them between various stats. Unlike Racing, you can add 1 here or 2 there, if you want to.
