Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Elysium continued her tear through the three old year filly ranks, waltzing to an easy win over her arch-rival Illicit in the Las Virgenes Stakes. Today, she looks to be in a tougher spot after her first loss on the Derby trail, and the daughter of Ruffian looks to be vulnerable with five other fillies ready to take advantage of her recent loss.
Rhapsody's Illicit is the favorite and deservedly so after her first score on the Derby trail winning the Florida Derby in gritty fashion over colts last out. Elysium isn't totally without support as the second choice, but she will have to desperately improve off her fifth place finish in the Florida Derby to keep her top spot on the filly totem pole. Lark and Djinn will share third choice here, as both fillies performed admirably in the Florida Derby and in their most recent allowance races. Wildbird is a newcomer on the trail but impeccably bred - she is the daughter of 2018 Triple Crown winner Pagan and 2017 Triple Tiara winner Songbird, and is a front runner that has already broken her maiden at first asking and has yet to finish out of the top 3.
It's the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the breeze promises the lillies to come in May for these six fabulous fillies as they step onto the track for this year's Gulfstream Park Oaks!
The Road to the Oaks continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
