Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Illicit finally broke through and rewarded her constant backers with her first win on the Derby Trail with a hard fought victory over Lani in the Florida Derby. Today we continue the road to the Derby at Gulfstream Park as the sun finally breaks through the clouds with a breath of spring.
Rhapsody's Illicit is once again the favorite and will look to continue the filly invasion on the Derby trail, as no colt has yet to win a prep this year as both Illicit and Elysium have traded blows throughout the year. Elysium will be close behind as the second choice despite her fifth place finish last out, and she'll be only one of two speed horses with longshot and half-sister Djinn will look to set it up for her stablemate. Lani will be third choice after his second place finish in the Florida Derby and the hard-closing grey is getting ever closer to that elusive win for the colts. Damask isn't far behind and he's the next best chance to win it for the colts after showing massive improvement in his last few starts. General Disarray will bring up the rear as this full sibling of Illicit hasn't shown the brilliance of his sister but continues to grind his way up through the ranks through sheer determination.
A breath of spring is in the air as the temperatures have finally soared into the 60s here on the East Coast, and it's a fast and bright track ready for these six colts and fillies as we line up for this year's Fountain of Youth Stakes!
The Road to the Derby continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
