Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Elysium stampeded back to the fore of the filly sophmore division with an open lengths victory over Illicit in the Fairground Oaks. The striking daughter of Ruffian seems determined to win the war of the Lilies by attrition, and she's putting her record back on the line again today as the wind whips the track into a dustbowl with thunderstorms building on the horizon.
Illicit is once again the favorite after narrowing out Elysium in the Fountain of Youth, but the bay filly has yet to route her rival by any clear margin along the Oaks trail. Elysium is the obvious second choice and will look to run them off their feet again, but she'll have her half sister Djinn to contend with as the other daughter of Ruffian looks to keep her form on the rise after a sharp victory in allowance company. Lark isn't far behind after scoring in her own allowance race last out, while Noble Hierarch has been struggling to regain her juvenile form that saw her blaze through stakes victories like they were candy. Wildbird will round out the field and attempt a coup here as the longest shot on the board, with the flashy daughter of Pagan and Songbird looking to emulate her most accomplished parents on the 2018 Triple Tiara trail.
The wind is roaring down the track to provide a nice tailwind for these fillies once they round the final bend, and it'll be six of them to contest the dry, loess-like main track today as we buckle in for this year's Ashland Stakes!
The Road to the Oaks continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
