Welcome to Breed Clubs on Seeing Stars!
Are you interested in finding like-minded breeders of your specialized breed? Are you looking for a registered stud or dam for your beloved horse to create an unstoppable line of show horses? Or are you interested in adding a new breed to your stable and can’t make a choice?
BREED CLUBS are here to help you out on all accounts!
What is a breed club?
A breed club is a registry for horses of a particular breed with a dedicated group of followers and breeders that register each of their stallions and mares of that breed. Each breed club has its own breed standard that each potential horse must meet before being registered, whether that is a standard of color, conformation or even genetic history (who its parents are, etc) before it is allowed to register with the selected breed club. In each club you will find a stud book of stallions and mares that meet this standard and may be available for breeding to other registered horses in the club.
Breed clubs aren’t also restricted to purebreds! Some clubs may allow for crossbreed horses that contain some strain of their particular breed and will let those mixes register and compete in breed club-sanctioned events. Please make sure you pay attention to which clubs allow this, because some don’t and are dedicated to only the purebreds of their chosen breed.
What is the benefit of registering?
There are various benefits to joining a club! Many clubs host their own breed-specific shows and events that are only open to horses of that breed and that are registered with the club, and each of these shows may earn you separate tickets toward a special club prize. All points garnered in these shows count toward your horse’s overall championship, so you lose nothing in registering a horse and entering any club-specific shows on your way to championship titles.
It is far easier to find a stud and dam through breed clubs instead of just rifling through member barns over on our Barns board. With a breed club, you will find lists of registered stallions and mares that may be available for breeding, and you may even come across horses in each club that are available for public adoption. In this case, you’ll have a fully registered foal to join your stable whose parentage is documented and verified, AND you get the bonus of entering all of those breed specific shows and events that were mentioned earlier.
Do I NEED to join a breed club?
Absolutely not! All breed clubs are completely optional and are just another fun part of the forum that you can choose to get involved with or not. You are not required to register any horse of any breed here on Seeing Stars, and you can continue to show your horse as you please, whether there is a club for it or not. Clubs were created by dedicated breeders and lovers of a certain type of horse breed, and while there are certainly some bonuses you can garner from joining a club, it is not mandatory.
How do I join a breed club?
Each club has its own registration process, so you’ll need to go to the club of your choice and see what their specific requirements are for registering a horse. Each club has its own separate standard in color, conformation and crossbred percentage that is allowable for registration. They are run as distinct and independent entities of each other, which means you can always join more than one club! You can register as many horses as you have breeds, and you are not restricted to one single breed club.
I don’t see my breed. Can I create a breed club?
Absolutely! However, if you want to be in charge of a breed club, keep these things in mind:
- You will need to create your own standard of the breed you want to create a club for and decide what crossbreds or unrealistic markings, if any, you’d allow to register
- You must be willing to create your own registry system, assigning registry numbers to each horse that is registered with your club
- You must be fairly active and be 100% sure you will have the time dedicated to opening and running a club
- You must be familiar with many of our show types here, so you can run and properly judge shows that are dedicated to your chosen breed
To apply for a club, you’ll need to post in our “Apply for a Breed Club” thread, where one of our mods will read it over, create your club’s sub-board and give you permission to create and moderate threads on that board.
Does any of this sound like it interests you? Then go check out our breed clubs! Remember, registration is completely optional – this is just another way to get involved with your beloved horses on Seeing Stars.
