I hope y'all like rodents!
In 2017, I decided to start working with Strong Brew Hamstery in Canada and I started breeding Syrian hamsters as Hathor Hamstery. I'm on a hiatus right now but have actually adopted hamsters out to other petz members so that's cool. As Hathor Hamstery, my goal was to produce ethically bred alternatives to pet store (rodent mill) hamsters that were healthy, show-quality, and friendly. I was one of two ethical hamsteries in all of Canada, and now more breeders are getting started ethically.
My colour focus was golden, yellow, black, and extreme dilute. I thought I'd share some of my favourite pictures here because I LOVED all of my hams so much.
And yes I regularly had photoshoots for my hamsters.
Linguini ("Iggy") was my foundation female and was a heterozygous extreme dilute black tortoiseshell! Iggy had two litters with me (one with Galileo, one with Pamplemousse) and then was retired.
Galileo ("Leo") was my first foundation male, a honey shorthaired! He had one litter with Iggy and he lived to be 3 years old (which is insane for a hamster).
Pamplemousse ("Moose") is my second foundation male, and he was an extreme dilute ghost melanistic yellow boy! HE WAS THE BEST. Moose sired 3 litters.
Ara, a daughter of Leo and Iggy, was from our first litter, the Noodles! The Noodles theme was "constellations and stars" and consisted of Ara, Pisces, Phoenix, Cygnus, Andromeda, Lyra, Mimosa, Vela, Castor, Pollux, Eridanus, and Orion. Ara was a black tortoiseshell female.
Vixen, aka the best hamster ever, was a daughter of Moose and Iggy. Vixen was an extreme dilute melanistic yellow female. And she was the best hamster ever. She had a sister named Olive.
Rhubarb, then Boobarb, then Boob, was a female from SBH. Boob was such fun genetically, as she appears to be flesh eared white. And then she had babies and we learned that she was, in fact, extreme dilute dove tortoiseshell. And that's why you have to know genetics to be able to breed ethically!
Dante, a cream recessive dappled boy. Dante was retired before breeding just because cream doesn't really fit in with my lines.
Angus! Angus was a dove longhaired boy from Moose and Ara. Angus and his littermates were named after cow breeds! Angus went on to become the ambassador for the Great Canadian Hamster Rescue!
Beau!! Beau was the smooshiest boy ever. Beau is from Guinness and Ursa. Beau had one litter with Vindaloo. Beau was a black shorthaired.
Butterball ("Butters), a heterozygous extreme dilute golden boy, was from Holmdem Hill Haven in Ohio!
Caoimhe, longhaired golden girl! She is from Beau and Vindaloo!
Foxy, aka the CUTEST hamster ever, a shorthaired extreme dilute melanistic yellow male! He is from Jade x Boysenberry.
Frida, an extreme dilute black tortoiseshell female from SBH.
Guinness, a black male from Holmden Hill Haven!
Jade, a heterozygous extreme dilute golden tortoiseshell female from Boob and Hielo!
Jinx, an extreme dilute golden tortoiseshell from Vixen and Hielo!
Ursa, a black banded female from Ara and Huckleberry!
Vindaloo, an extreme dilute cinnamon tortoiseshell female from SBH!
Wings, an extreme dilute black male!
Cassava, an extreme dilute black tortoiseshell hamster from Boysenberry and Jade!
And Yoshi, an extreme dilute black recessive dappled female from SBH! Moo! owns her sister!
I can post baby pics if people want those as well...I have maaaaaaaany
