Race Replay
Two weeks ago, we started on our journey to the British Classics with a bang, as the blue-blooded Thistle stormed to an easy victory over friend and foe alike in the Fred Darling Stakes. Thistle is missing from today's lineup, but it's still a star-studded event as our seven fillies take to the turf for this year's Prix Finlande!
The ever-lovely Under The Mask leads the way today, after scoring two front-running triumphs on the Oaks trail in America and showing that same ability on the grass in other graded stakes. Dapper Doll isn't far behind and while the flashy daughter of turf superstar Bold Lady hasn't lived up to her mother's reputation, she's beginning to come into her own as we progress through the spring. Goldikova will be right up there with the top 2 and she has shown a tremendous turn of foot in her last few races that could be devestating in this pace-light route. Minx will also have to find a way thread through this salty field as this late-running filly will have only one chance to grind away at the competition. Firebrand is a newcomer today and while 9 furlongs is a bit short for her, the fiery red daughter of Dubai champion Dracarys has shown her sire's grit and determination to find the wire at the right time. Gracie is in double digits and while a second in allowance company is a positive sign, she has proceeded it with lackluster efforts that may come back to bite her today. Lucille rounds out our field as the longest shot of all, although with only horse pacesetter in the field, she has little hope for that pace meltdown every closer craves.
It's a bright and brassy day but storm clouds loom to the west, and it'll be a race against time itself before the skies open up and drench our turf to the root.
The Road to the Classics continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
