Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Coco roared back to the winner's circle in emphatic fashion, shattering a 5-year-old stakes record to romp by almost 4 lengths over Buchiko, another winner on the Oaks trail. Today, the amount of fillies is pared down to only 8, but it's still a field of class and talent as our shining ladies line up for this year's Ashland Stakes!
Coco is the favorite off her smashing victory last out on the Oaks trail, and as the lone speed in the field this week, she will be one dangerous filly to catch. Runner up Buchiko is out for revenge after her trouncing last week and with her own Oaks trail victory fresh on the mind, she's already proven to be crafty enough to win in a full field. Dapper Doll has been knocked down to third choice after several good efforts in stakes races and she's proven her worth on the turf as she's galloped through the British Trials with class. Well-bred Thistle isn't one to knock with her stalk and pounce tactics and with a win in graded stakes not too far behind her, she's revved up for a win on the Oaks trail. Groupie Doll has had a spring of ups and downs, with her last up a win in a graded stakes, but she's yet to string together back to back victories. Mary Lou has shown some improvement in allowances, but it's double digits Duchess to watch for a live longshot as she's graded with ease into the graded ranks. Lovely Intuition is the longest shot on the board by a wide margin, but with a recent second in allowance company, she's shown improvement and may be one to watch in the days to come.
The storms of the weekend are but a memory as bright blue and fluffy white dominate the sky over the East Coast, with spring temperatures soaring as we march closer to the first Friday in May. It's a beautiful day and with these eight fabulous fillies sparkling in counterpoint to the clear sky, it's a picture perfect scene for this year's Ashland Stakes!
The Road to the Oaks continues NOW on Seeing Stars!
