Race Replay
Two weeks ago, Coco continued her domination of the filly ranks, scoring her second win in a row on the Oaks trail with a free-wheeling victory over unlucky Buchiko. Today, she's back for more against familiar foes as these 9 fillies load into the gate for this year's Gazelle Stakes!
Coco is once again the favorite and for good reason, as she is quickly becoming the heavy favorite in the Oaks due to her tremenous grit and quick turn of foot. Buchiko is close behind and the flashy filly will be praying for racing luck today, finishing second to Coco several times in a row after her own prep win. Dapper Doll is a surprising third choice based her recent stakes form, most recently coming in second in Grade 2 company. Thistle has also been on the upswing and with a sharp break, she'll be a dangerous filly to watch in the stretch, while Groupie Doll will have to work harder than ever if she plans to go wide, as is her preference, on a muddy track. Mary Lou graduated into graded stakes company in her last race with a sharp-looking second, while Duchess will have to be hot on her heels after finishing behind her stablemate in consecutive races. Gracie is double digits today, and while she has finished second and third in her most recent starts, it's unknown if that's an upswing in form or an abberation based on her prior record. Intuition is the longest shot on the board after disappointing in her other Oaks preps, but has shown promise in allowance company with several on the board finishes.
It's been a wet and wild spring, with thunderstorms ravaging the area just the night prior, leaving the track a muddy mess and one that may work against many of our runners today. It may be a battle against the elements as the clouds close in again, but our 9 fillies will have to race against the clock and each other to find that wire first before the skies open up in this year's Gazelle Stakes!
The Road to the Kentucky Oaks ENDS NOW on Seeing Stars!
