It's the first Friday in May and that means the Kentucky Oaks is finally here! It's a nearly full field and the biggest we've had in several years, with three fillies coming out as top dog among their peers. Under The Mask took several Oaks preps in the beginning of the season, but after an upset by Buchiko to end the Mask's streak, it's been Coco that has roared to Oaks favoritism with three Oaks scores in a row, in addition to two Derby prep wins against the boys. We've had Triple Tiara winners for three years in a row - can Coco make it an unprecedented fourth? Fillies have been the stars in the most recent renewals of the sophomore classics, and it looks to be much the same, as we head into battle for this year's KENTUCKY OAKS!

It's the first Friday in May and the sun is ablaze in a perfect blue sky as we descend upon Churchill Downs for the biggest 3yo filly race of the year! It's nearly a full field of fabulously beautiful fillies, but all eyes seem to be on only three of them as the top sophomore fillies on the forum clash for those coveted lillies over 9 short furlongs.
Lavender Hill's unstoppable Coco leads the post parade as the narrow favorite, and if she can get away clean, she'll provide her backers with bragging rights for the year. Hard Tack's Buchiko is going to be hot on her heels in both the betting and on the track, with the white freight train ready to pounce if Coco should falter. Midgard's 2 year old Champion filly Girl Gone Wild won't be left behind this time after a four race absence, and she'll be a factor late in the race if she can find her way through traffic. Under The Mask, winner of three Oaks preps, will duke it out early with Coco to get that coveted lead, and she'll need to run free and clear to earn her place in history. Dapper Doll figures to be another late-running filly that could pick up a piece, with stablemate Groupie Doll on the far outside just the way she likes it and coming off her first stakes win. Rhapsody's Thistle will be the one to follow in Illicit's footsteps and may throw a wrench in the front runners' plans with a sharp break. Turn & Burn's Mary Lou is a late-running pinto paint that will try to make an impact after two second-place finishes in a row, and we jump into double digits with stablemates Duchess and Gracie, both fillies that will need a meltdown to make a splash to the wire. Windmere's Intuition is the longest shot of all in our field, but she's just as pretty as the rest as they make their way to the starting gate.
The sky is the picture of perfection with a brilliant sun and a deep sapphire sky, with not a cloud to be seen on these 11 fabulous fillies as they take to the track for their ultimate goal - a coronation of lillies.
