A week ago, Thistle roared to the wire first in the 1000 Guineas in stakes record time to cement her place as the top three year old turf filly on the forum. Taking a break after a demanding Olympics schedule, Thistle is absent this time around, but we still have a short field of four fabulous fillies to continue their turf Tiara contest as we load up for this year's Cheshire Oaks!
Hard Tack's Minx is the favorite today despite a last place finish in the 1000 Guineas, and has proven she's better than that race with a subsequent second place finish in an allowance race. Brazen is co-second choice today after running third in that same allowance, closing fast to finish less than three lengths from the winner. Gracie is right there with her as the second betting choice, and while the flashy bay filly hasn't had any luck lately, it seems, with a smaller field and firm track, she may not find the traffic problems she always seems to find in larger fields. Closer Firebrand will have all the time in the world to find running room in such a small field, and with a rail position she may be in the best position to get it.
Wild thunderstorms tore through the area last night, but the sun is shining and the heat has dried out the turf track to pristine condition as our four fillies make their way onto the grass. With only four select fillies competing this time, it's a wide open field that could catapult one of these fillies into the top echelon of the division, as we load into the gate for this year's Cheshire Oaks!
