Race Replay
A week ago, Mokuso continued his tear throughout the British Isles as the red son of Vain added the Lingfield Derby to his already impressive resume, stringing together back to back wins after annexing the 2000 Guineas. He's back for more today and so are eight other colts and fillies, as we enter our final trial before the Epsom Derby and Epsom Oaks next weekend!
2000 Guineas winner Mokuso is once more the favorite today, and he'll go for three in a row as he seeks to nail down his title of best turf three year old on the forum. Turn & Burn's Bandit will try and have a say in that as second choice, with the flashy bay colt looking to bounce back from a fifth place finish in the Lingfield Derby. Illusion is the third choice today after a decent showing in the Olympics; he failed to medal but he was closing fast and missed it by only a few strides. Regally bred War Axe will try to foil his stablemate on the front end with his own deadly speed, while Riot comes fresh off a fifth place finish in the Belmont Stakes on dirt, having shown more ability on the turf than the main track. Checkers will try to build on the success he found in earlier trials, winning the Blue Riband and most recently closing like a freight train to take third in the Belmont Stakes. Minx will be looking for a pace meltdown on the front end to unleash her closing speed, but with only two front runners in the field, she may have to run closer than she prefers to the pace to find the right spot. Gracie is double digits despite winning the Cheshire Oaks in record time, but she failed to fire in the Belmont Stakes and will have to improve wholeheartedly to make an impact here. Brazen is the longest shot of all, but the talented filly has shown she can easily outrun her odds and is a dangerous bet against in the exacta and trifecta fields.
The heatwave that's gripped the country shows no signs of letting up any time soon, and the turf has been baked to a hoof-rattling motorway of a race course. These 9 colts and fillies will have to beat the heat and each other as we enter the final trial before the Epsom Duo, with the field ready to roll in this year's Chester Vase!
