Race Replay
2020 has been a topsy turvy year for the world of horse racing, but the Breeders' Cup is a force that stops for no man or virus - we're on our way back to Keeneland for this year's championship racing festival!
2018 Triple Crown winner Pagan leads the field after an all out assault on the Olympics, scoring in the Tokyo Classic and proving himself a stellar older handicapper - and a monster to boot. 2020 Derby/Preakness winner Horus will try to rein him in after failing to emulate him in the Belmont Stakes, but the big strapping colt is dangerous on his own and has speed to spare when he can clear the field. Stablemate Heathen finished third to Pagan in the Tokyo Classic and with a far outside post, he'll have to break clean and sprint fast to clear those two speed demons for the wire. 2019 Preakness winner Damask will look for all three of them to fall apart on the front end to get himself back to the Breeders' Cup after getting steamrolled by fillies in last year's edition. 2020 Oaks/Black-Eyed Susan winner Coco may just dash his hopes in that department, with her own deadly speed on the line - and one she's learning to use from off the pace. Tipsy will be a late running addition to the front end if the pace crumbles in front of her, and with a berth already to the Distaff, she'll be looking for a twofer in the Classic. Duchess jumps the field to double digits after an up and down season in both the Triple Tiara and Olympics, with Mary Lou facing similar odds and sporting a nearly identical resume from the spring season. Checkers boasts a win on the British Triple Crown trail and most recently ran a huge third on the Belmont Stakes, and he'll look to continue that sucess into the Breeders' Cup. Styx is the longest shot of all and while the old warhorse doesn't have the best record against high calibur company, he is still happy enough to try in what will be his final racing season.
It's a deep field this year with a Triple Crown winner, a Kentucky Derby winner, Kentucky Oaks winner and several medaled horses from both Rio and Tokyo as we jump back to the main track for the final race of the day. It'll be a sprint to the finish despite the classic distance, and there can be only one winner to earn that coveted spot in the Breeders' Cup.
