Race Replay
Last week, Warpaint bulled his way to the wire with a furlong to go and had enough left in the tank to hold off the furious charge of the rest of the field, holding off a hard-closing Bandit by a diminishin half length. Today Bandit is back for more along with 9 other colts and fillies as we up the ante to 12 furlongs on the turf course for this year's English Channel Handicap!
Tokyo medalist Accendere leads the pack and this blazing fast filly will be in her element with an inside post and only a few other speed horses to get in her way if she can clear the field. Stablemate Candore will be watching from the back of the pack for a chink in Accendere's armor, and with a large field today, he'll have to put his agility in high gear to find a way through. Secret Silence rounds out the Rhapsody trio and will be tracking that speed around the course, looking for the perfect moment to strike. Dyllinger will be right there with her and while his form has tapered lately, he's still a big one to watch and a force to reckon with. 2000 Guineas winner Mokuso may have missed in the Epsom Derby but a inside post will help sharpen his speed and break, something he's been lacking in recent races. London Bridge rallied for a strong third last out in the Shergar, and will try to build on that today, while Eight Seconds makes his Breeders' Cup debut and will have to put his speed on overdrive to outrun some of these horses today. Bandit is the last of hte single digts off two solid second place finishes in both the Shergar and the Epsom Derby. Acorn winner Under The Mask is double digits despite her recent victories and near misses, while Checkers is the longest shot of all after a season filled with more downs than ups for the flashy son of Preakness winner Keen Ice.
A hurricane is bearing down on the East Coast just mere hours down the shore, but the sun is still fighting valiantly against the approaching thunderheads as we open the track for today's races! With 10 colts and fillies taking to the track like glittering jewels, it'll be a race against time, the elements and each other to earn that second coveted spot for this year's Breeders' Cup Turf.
The Road to the Breeders' Cup continues NOW on SS!
