Race Replay
Last week saw Rhapsody continue their domination of the turf preps with Candore streaking to a record-setting performance to punch his ticket to the Breeders' Cup. Today, Rhapsody will try to make it a hat trick with two high-class fillies - but they'll still have to get through the rest of the field to grab that coveted third spot in the Breeders' Cup Turf.
Rhapsody's Accendere is the favorite today and with a gold medal already under her girth from Tokyo, she is definitely the one to beat - and one of the fastest out of the gate on the forum. Eight Seconds is second choice today and has hiw own speed to spare, tearing through the G3 ranks with abandon and more than up to the task to build on that against older horses. Dyllinger is co-third choice on the line today and after getting stopped in the stretch last week, he's out for revenge and figures to be hot on Accendere's heels. Stablemate London Bridge will be right there with him, looking to improve off a lackluster second half of the season after impressing in the spring. 2000 Guineas winner Mokuso is further up the line today after failing to fire in the Epsom Derby, and after a series of gate mishaps, it'll be a question mark if he can get out of the stalls in time to beat his rivals to the lead. Bandit, second in both the Guineas and the Epsom Derby, looks to build on those impresive performances to continue his upswing into the graded ranks. Veramente Neve hops the field into double digits off a questionable season so far, seeming a cut below her talented full brother against open company, but still strong against her own sex. Checkers will follow them all figuratively and literally, as the flashy black colt looks to close from the back of the field - but whether he can find running room or the ability to do so remains questionable.
It's a hot and sunny day on the East Coast, the perfect weather for a horse race and even better conditions for a Breeders' Cup prep! It'll be eight in the gate this time around as we slowly whittle down the contenders to the best of the best before we reach the Breeders' Cup and it's our third showndown for a spot in the Turf in this year's Dahlia Stakes!
