Race Replay
Last week Pagan once again showed the fire of a Triple Crown winner, scoring emphatically over his own son as those two battled head to head to the wire, with Pagan prevailing by a short neck. Today, Heathen returns for another shot at the Breeders' Cup and faces a much smaller field as we continue our road to the Breeders' Cup in this year's Spectacular Bid Stakes!
Kentucky Oaks victress Coco leads the field today and she'll be in town to score her second trip to the Breeders' Cup after earning her place in the Distaff last week. Dubai World Cup winner Virgo will be right there with her out of the gate, as the speedy bay stallion can break fast and run even faster to storm to an oftentimes insurmountable lead. Heathen will look to improve off his second place finish last out and with his sire missing he has a good chance to outrun everyone to the front. Grey Tipsy already has a spot in the Distaff but she's looking for a twofer in the Classic in a quest to become only the second filly to win the marquee race. 2019 Preakness winner Damask returns to make this trip to the Breeders' Cup a winning one, after coming up short last year. Triple Crown veteran Yokai is an alumnus from both the dirt and turf Triples, but returns to dirt to follow in his stablemates' footsteps to score in the most prestigious race on the forum. Stablemate Styx is a cut below the best of his barn, but he is a hard trying stallion that does what he can - even if he often falls short. Checkers is double digits and the longest shot on the board, and despite winning a Trial race on turf in England, he has failed to show the same talent on dirt and is questionable at 10 furlongs.
It's a hot and sunny day on the East Coast, the perfect weather for a horse race and even better conditions for a Breeders' Cup prep! It'll be eight in the gate this time around as we slowly whittle down the contenders to the best of the best before we reach the Breeders' Cup and it's our third showndown for a spot in the Classic in this year's Spectacular Bid Stakes!
