Race Replay
In last week's Lady's Secret, Mesmerize bulled her way to the front on the far outside and dueled with Buchiko to the finish, ekeing out a hard fought victory to earn her spot in the BC Distaff. Buchiko returns after several solid runner up finishes, and she's out for that elusive victory as the snow white filly faces seven other rivals in this year's Go For Wand Handicap!
Buchiko is the notable favorite here, a top flight sophomore filly that owns a gold from Tokyo and a silver crown after finishing 2nd in all three Triple Tiara races this year. Acorn Stakes winner Under The Mask is her nearest competition and with a wet fast track, speed is the name of the game today and Under The Mask excels at quick acceleration from the field. Two Year Female champ Girl Gone Wild is back for more after an eventing Triple Tiara season, and with solid placements in the last two legs of the season, she's a fresh filly and one that could easily upend the field. Duchess will look to tack in behind both Under The Mask and Buchiko, while stablemate Mary Lou will do her best running a spot or two behind, with both fillies showing improvement over their last several races. Gracie is higher odds today despite her unfortunate past performances, and she'll be looking for a pace meltdown with her out of the clouds style that saw her win a British Trial earlier in the season. Groupie Doll has an outside post as she likes it and she'll try to be forwardly placed along with half the field with only Under The Mask as the pacesetter. Chiricahua, double digits today, surprised everyone when she stormed to a second place finish two weeks ago in the Busher, but she came up empty last week and it's a toss up whether she'll repeat either performance.
The storms have come and gone, but the torrential rains have left our main dirt track a slippery mess with a love for mud a requirement as our eight gleaming fillies take to the slop. They won't be shining for long with the amount of muddy kickback expected, and it'll be a toss up today on who can handle the slop and who can't as they battle to the wire for that last coveted spot in this year's BC Distaff!
