Race Replay
It's a new week and a new round of Breeders' Cup preps! We finish our series off this week with the marathoners of the turf, as seven fillies and colts line up for a shot at the Marathon in this year's Round Table Memorial Stakes!
Hard Tack's Kindle will lead the parade after an up and down season, culminating in a fifth place finish in the Tokyo Marathon to just miss out on a medal. She'll be hounded by Eight Seconds, one of the best marathoners the forum has seen in recent memory and a top prospect for this year's St. Leger Stakes. Warpaint, another BC veteran, figures to tuck in behind those two dueling speedballs and use the same stalk and pounce tactics that won him a bronze in Tokyo. Dead closer Unrequited missed out on her own medal in Tokyo, but she still boasts a score from Dubai earlier in the year and 13 furlongs is just the start of her best distance. Daella is our second Tokyo medalist and sports a gold to boot, and she figures to be a big BC player this year based on her stellar spring season. Accendere scored the gold in the Tokyo Marathon over her stablemate Warpaint and with blazing speed as her best weapon, that inside post may help her snag that lead and keep it as the shortest way around 13 furlongs. Veramente Neve leaps into double digits as the longest shot in the field, and while she does boast some BC experience, she'll be up against it in this field.
Thunderstorms are rolling in fast and it's a race against the weather and the clock as our seven sparkling fillies and mares are bundled onto the turf course. Rain has already soaked the course earlier in the day and with some give in the grass, that may just be enough to give some of our competitors an edge as we line them up for this year's Round Table Memorial Stakes!
