Race Replay
It's a new week and a new round of Breeders' Cup preps! We continue our road to the Breeders' Cup with a switch to the main track and a cutback in distance as our sprint specialists take the stage in this year's Dr. Fager Memorial Stakes!
Rhapsody's Overdraft is the favorite today after a lucrative first half of the season, with the big bay stallion missing only by the shortest of heads in the Olympics for another trove of medals. Shared Belief has his own gold from the Tokyo Sprint to lord over his rivals, and the fast-closing colt will have plenty of speed to run into with the overload of pace setters in this year's race. Chantilly has a Dubai win to her name and is one of the most experienced horses in the field, having contested the Breeders' Cup on several different occasions with varying sucess. Raho jumps into the deep end in his first BC appearance and he'll have to flash that blazing speed of his to get away from his sire and other rivals for that coveted lead. Cancer may just get the jump on him, however, as the flashy buckskin colt has done his best running fast out of the gate and motoring away on the front end to run his rivals into the dirt. Acorn Stakes winner Under The Mask has a similar running style, while fellow sophomore Groupie Doll will have to find a way to tuck in behind all these leaders and still find running room in this large field. Mary Lou will have to show improvement off a series of disappointing Distaff preps, while double digits Duchess cuts back in distance to what may be her best wheelhouse. Impulsive is the longest shot of all and with a bronze in the Tokyo Juvenile, he still is the least experienced of the field and will have to run the race of his life to keep up with the big boys.
Thunderstorms are rolling in fast and it's a race against the weather and the clock as our ten sparkling colts and fillies parade onto the dirt course. Rain has already soaked the track earlier in the day and with some mud in the dirt, that may just be enough to give some of our competitors an edge as we line them up for this year's Dr. Fager Memorial Stakes!
